Chronicling pro-wrestling ring gear of past and present. Crotch gussets and briefs-over-singlets forever.

MITB 2014 - Cesaro’s Knees Need Protecting

Well, Cesaro just can’t seem to figure out his entrance gear. I was really digging the white ‘King of Swing’ jacket too. A long robe is a throwback look though, which works for him. It just seems a little plain. It needs some sparkle or something.

I just could not manage to get a decent picture of Cesaro’s ring gear. Ladder matches don’t lend to a lot of static shots of the wrestlers. But he had new briefs–same design as before, but black with red detail, and 'Cesaro’ written in script on the side.

He also had knee pads, for the first time! I guess if you’re going to suddenly start wearing them, a ladder match is probably a good time. I wondered if if was just for extra protection during the MITB match, but he was wearing them again on RAW, so it seems like a permanent addition. I’m glad–no amount of aesthetics is worth a wrestler being inadequately protected–I always worry about guys/girls with no knee pads.

MITB 2014-A Little Change for Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns was the last member of The Shield still in full vest/tactical pants gear, and this week he didn’t so much leave it behind as give it a little tweak. He has a thinned-out vest, a little more open around the armholes, and with a segmented appearance.  I like it, it’s still got a kind of para-military feel while being a little less covered, and probably more comfortable.

The pants lose me a little bit though. Someone compared them to UFO pants or JNCOs and now I can’t unsee it. The piping seemed like a good idea in theory, but in practice I think it looks a little goofy.

MITB 2014–Team Singlet Solidarity

Now it’s not only matching hats for Team Rybaxel–Curtis Axel donned a singlet this week after previously only wearing briefs. It’s a pretty simple black, red and silver design, with an axe emblem on the back. I’m a little sad there’s no airbrushing though.

Ryback’s has enough airbrush for the both of them though. The inspirational strap-slogan of the week is “UNIVERSAL GLADIATOR” with what I assume must be a globe (marble?) underneath it. The back, however, I can’t figure it out. Is it an alien head? He’s still wearing under-armor compression shorts under them too (oddly, RVD was not, last night)

MITB 2014-My Favorite Triangle

Ok, the angle was unabashedly bad, but I can’t hate on it too much, since it gave us Fandango’s amazing referee outfit. He bedazzled his ref shirt! And instead of Shawn Micheals-style hot pants, he’s wearing crushed black velvet pants with ‘Girls, girls girls’ written all over them. Fandango moving closer to his NXT 'Dirty Curty’ character is fine with me, he’s a great creep.

Another plus–Summer Rae finally shed her fringey dancer outfit for her NXT gear! I love the shape of her NXT gear, the thigh-high boot covers are distinctive and accentuate her long legs. It looks great made up in gold with bronze animal print accents too.

Layla’s dancing devil outfit is her first miss for me. That’s a lot of red sequins, especially with the sleeves. It was also riding up a little awkwardly during the match.

MITB 2014—Going for the Green

I was a little sad to see only two PPV-themed outfits for MITB. I love when people get gear made just for an event.

RVD was sporting a green dragon coiling around his singlet, with some yin-yangs thrown in for good measure.

The Usos shorts actually really benefited from the limited color palette. In just silver and green, I can actually tell what the design on the side of their shorts is! It’s their face paint! In a lot of the color combinations, it just looked like a mess of color. Also of note, they’ve kept the arm sleeves, and one of them is now wearing white ‘shinguards?’ I thought they were compression tights at first, but they do stop above the knee. Not sure if they are practical (maybe he injured something?) or what.

MITB Ring Gear Updates Coming Soonish!

Highlights-

-Money themed outfits (green color schemes)

-Axel dons a singlet in solidarity with The Big Guy

-Cesaro wears knee pads for the first time (in a ladder match, I don’t blame him!)

-Ambrose changes his tank top and gets some holes in his pants

-Roman Reigns might be in JNCOs/Tripp pants

Spotlight On: Candice LeRae

I love finding really really old pictures of wrestlers in their rookie days, their outfits are always amazingly awkward, and Candice’s is no exception. A princess seamed one shoulder top, flared pants and maple leaves all over.

Her other earlier gear is actually pretty good looking-I always like a keyhole top, and the colors are bright and flattering on her. A great Hawaiian print on the one on the right!

The pink-and-black gear reminds me a lot of some of Natalya’s gear–not just the color combo, but Nattie recently had a pair of tights with similar mesh panels on the thighs. The one of the right has some interesting color blocking on the top, and some sort of weird fringey skirt on the bottom.

The bottom row is more current gear. On the left is her outfit as one half of The World’s Cutest Tag Team with Joey Ryan. It’s got a perfectly cheesy, tackey floral/animal print fabric with bright pink and blue accents. The right is her singles gear for her PWG Title match against Adam Cole. She went with a retro Nintendo Gameboy motif–with the buttons appliqued to the shorts and a mesh panel as the screen on the top.

WWE Raw 6/23– Miscellaneous

-Titus O'Neil sporting new, bright red trunks. Glad his split from Darren Young did not change his taste in brightly colored, sparkly trunks. It’s a good color on him, and the sword-and-shield motif is classy.

-I know they aren’t new, but I love the color combination on this pair of Ziggler’s trunks. Silver and light pink are not what I’d conventially think of as colors for wrestling gear but it works great for him. Also, I can’t figure out what that diamond design on Barrett’s trunks is supposed to be.

–Big E got a whole new design of singlet. I’m a little sad, I loved the stripes that ran down the back and around to the side seam of his old one. The black-and-yellow is very striking, but I do think I like Big E better in white or grey.

Raw 6/23–Vicki Guerrero

Whenever non-wrestling characters have to get in the ring, I love their awkwardly put together outfits (see Paul Heyman’s track suit) Vicki has a charmingly badly made tank and short set. Her catchphrase is crookedly emblazoned on her chest in sparkly letters. A flame motif, in tribute to her husband, Eddie Guerrero, decorates the hem of the tank and one side of the shorts. I was unable to get a decent shot of it, but her white old-lady sneakers were also bedazzled.

WWE Raw 6/23–Divas

Layla continues with her dance-wear themed gear–this one’s a little more plain, but it fits well and has some nice bedazzling going on.

Rosa’s back on TV, with a new hair color (looks great!) and a new color of gear. While I like the red more than the white she was wearing previously, it’s still not my favorite design. The top looks like it’s pooching out and not fitting well. And the lace and plunging neckline make it look like a teddy or something.
